Outreach Activities

The PMMD lab opens one session each year introducing manufacturing, microstructure and property measurement in materials science to high-school students. The students get a chance to learn what is materials science, how metallurgy and thermodynamics supports development of manufacturing.

As a high-school intern, Mr. Adam Bozzone (the one standing in middle and wearing in red) from Shady Side Academy joined the PMMD Lab in this summer to study additive manufacturing, and physical metallurgy. He tried to learn something more in a practical way understanding materials engineering. He did great and learned things together with our student Ankur Agrwal. Adam will go to college in 2019, and we wish him the best luck.

CALPHAD Conference

We believe that substantial progress can be made in a short period of time if we could arrange to work together for one week at one of our facilities to define problems, disband, carry out some individual activities, and meet again for a week at a second facilities to compare results and chart future activities.

Year 2011
CALPHAD conference XL:
The 40th CALPHAD conference was held in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. 88 oral presentations. My talk was on the modified magnetic model of the CALPHAD approach. Photos can be achieved in the CALPHAD official website.

Year 2010
CALPHAD conference XXXIX:
Jeju island in south Korea. My talk was on the magnetic phase diagram with its influence on the thermodynamic modeling. The related reports are available in peer-reviewed papers on the Fe-Cr and Fe-Ni systems.

CALPHAD conference XXXVIII:
Prague is a beautiful city in Czech Republic, please find some pictures for the conference.
